What a wonderful time of year... Let it snow...

This is definitely the best time of year for you to send in your suspension and disc brakes for rebuilding. The streets are covered in snow and the trails are frozen over. Its just not good for the bike. Basically your fork is sealed from the nasties; whether its snowy, muddy or sandy. But there are a few really good reasons to pull the bike out of the elements for servicing during the snowy months. Because all seals wear out and fail is a good reason to start with.

The second is your fork probably needs rebuilt anyway. Most manufactures recommend some kind of service after every 20 hours of ride time. Have you kept up with that? Me neither. So with everything being frozen over, now is a good time to catch up with your regular scheduled maintenance.

Another thing to remember during winter riding is the salt on the streets. Most of your disc brake calipers and fork lowers are Magnesium. Most stanchions and some brake pistons are aluminum, and some are steel. Well when you add salt water to a mix of a few different metals, you get the perfect environment for corrosion and this is the kind of damage a simple overhaul can't fix later. And things are slow in the shop right now so you can get a jump on delays that can happen during the busy season.

So this winter is the perfect winter to send all your pricey, hi-tech bits to me to get rebuilds, overhauls, blessing and polishing's. Then you can take all the money you will be theoretically saving by not having to replace your fork due to lack of maintenance and get yourself a fixie.

The fixie will be much more fun in the slush and it will teach you to pedal in a circle instead of a square.   If you have some questions; drop an email at info@shockspital.com.
